Hey everyone! I am super excited about the resource I found for this weeks resource blog. I have linked
it here for everyone. Open Up Resources is such an awesome resource, it even has the word resource
in the name. In open up, you can choose your grade level and select teacher, parent, or student. Once
selecting these options, you have access to so many different lessons and practice activities. I went
through the family and student options (you have to sign up for the teacher option) and I was able to
see all the units, go through lessons that directly correlate with the standards, and have access to
countless practice problems. Once I start teaching, I will definitely sign up (and pay) to use this resource
as a teacher, but even the things offered to students and families are amazing and worthwhile as is.

I think it is easy for people to wonder why literacy is important in math, but I would have to tell them that
literacy is embedded into mathematics. Literacy is the foundation of our knowledge, and math is a part
of our knowledge, therefore literacy is in math. Literacy can take many different forms depending on the
context, and it sometimes looks a little different in a math classroom. It’s not books and essays, but it still
exists. When a student can write out steps to a math problem, they know it (or at least they get the jist
of it). I think this resource is fantastic with helping students understand material, and helping teachers
and families help the students along the way to becoming literate in mathematics (which, yes, is different
than your usual definition of literacy).

Overall, I think Open Up Resources is such a fabulous thing for math teachers to implement in our
classrooms. It a fun and easy way to get our students interacting with the curriculum.
